Stone foundations are common under historic buildings.   Today's technology tends to ignore the grace and utility of stone.   Many stone foundations are destroyed by applying 'modern' methods of repair (such as concrete.)   If you have a stone foundation under your historic building, consider asking a master stonemason, such as, Mark Pilipski, the 'Rock Man' how to proceed.
