Wall and
Steps
Weathered Bluestone
Dry
stone construction of a long retaining wall and steps to the rear garden entrance
of a yard in Glen Ridge, New Jersey provides an attractive, as well as,
functional face. The owners reclaimed
more than 1,500 square feet of level lawn and garden space from the original
sloped ground. The wall is capped with
large cut slate rectangles. Weathered bluestone was selected because it
matched the historic slate sidewalks and gaslights that are preserved in this
community.
The
retaining wall is approximately sixty feet long and averages four feet in
height. Backfill of subsoil and
topsoil was used to bring the ground up to the level of the wall. Drainage was installed. This wall required about eighteen pallets
of stones and several months to construct.
The approximate cost for such a project
is in the range of $ 16,500. - 26,000.
