This stone Rumford fireplace provides the
centerpiece for a well lit sitting room. It has a large bluestone
hearth, set 18 inches above the floor to provide a comfortable place to
sit near the fire. The fireplace and chimney are constructed
of native stone, gleaned from the owner's property. The mantle is an
antique hand-hewn oak barn beam. The mantle is almost 7 feet above
the floor and the chimney rises another 20 feet inside the room.
Fireplaces of this size require about three
months to build at a cost of $ 34,000 - 68,000.
