“We are a little saddened because we begin to see the interval between our hopes and their fulfillment.”
-- Henry D. Thoreau (in Wild Fruits)

It is small consolation to appreciate the gap or interval between planting a seed and harvesting the same.   Often we don’t live long enough to see our dreams come true.   Perhaps this is the only sadness.   All loss, material or psychological, amounts to our realization that we do not have that which we desire.
