1. The student will develop an understanding of the cell and the molecular basis of heredity.
2. The student will develop an understanding of the nature of scientific inquiry.
3. The student will develop an understanding of matter, energy and organization of living systems.

BEHAVIORAL OBJECTIVES:
1. The student will understand and be able to explain the phases of the cell cycle.
2. The student will understand the concept conservation of genes among through the phyla, and the significance of this phenomenon.
3. The student will be able to explain cell cycle regulation in terms of a balance between constructive and destructive processes.
4. The student will gain an appreciation for the interaction of genes in the process of transcription regulation.
5. The student will understand how the large-scale structure of cell chromatin also plays a role in genetic regulation.
